Stability analysis of the surfactant dissolved in the falling film in the absorption process.

Author(s) : FUJITA I., HIHARA E.

Summary

In conventional absorption refrigerating machines, the absorption of water vapour into the lithium bromide aqueous solution is enhanced by the addition of surfactant. The Marangoni effect plays an important role in the augmentation mechanism. In the study, linear stability analysis is applied to the film flowing on an inclined plane, and shows that the disturbance of the film flow becomes unstable in the transverse direction more intensively than in the longitudinal direction, as the Reynolds number increases.
