Summary

This paper reviews the GATT's (now the WTO) actions with respect to the food industry and also explains the setting up and respective roles of OTC (Technical obstacles to trade) and of SPS (health and phytosanitary measures). Regulations or guidelines emanating from these various organizations are mentioned, as are their relations with governments, different categories of countries and other global organizations concerned (WHO, FAO, International Epizootic Diseases Bureau).
