Summary

IN THE PAPER, THE TWO-DIMENSIONAL STEADY-STATE TEMPERATURE DISTRIBUTION WITHIN THE GROUND BENEATH A PARTIALLY INSULATED SLAB-ON-GRADE FLOOR IS PRESENTED. THE SOLUTION OF THE GOVERNING HEAT CONDUCTION EQUATION IS DERIVED USING A SEMI-ANALYTICAL TECHNIQUE BASED ON A FOURIER SERIES AND THE JORDAN-GAUSS ELIMINATION METHOD. A WATER TABLE AT CONSTANT TEMPERATURE IS ASSUMED TO EXIST AT AN ARBITRARY DEPTH BELOW THE SOI UFC. THE HEAT FLUX DISTRIBUTION ALONG THE FLOOR SURFACE AS WELL AS THE TOTAL HEAT LOSS FROM THE SLAB IS ANALYZED. SOME GUIDELINES ON HORIZONTAL EDGE INSULATION OF SLABS ARE GIVEN.
