THE DOMAIN OF VALIDITY OF THE AXI-SYMMETRICAL ONE-DIMENSIONAL SCHEME OF THE STEFAN PROBLEM WAS DEFINED AROUND A CYLINDRICAL CAVITY. FOR THIS, A COMPARISON WITH A RIGOROUS TWO-DIMENSIONAL MODEL WAS DONE FOR CONDITIONS CORRESPONDING TO AN UNDERGROUND CRYOGENIC STORAGE. AN EMPIRICAL GENERALIZATION WAS ADAPTED TO OTHER GEOMETRICAL AND THERMAL CONDITIONS IN ORDER TO APPLY THE AXI-SYMMETRICAL MODEL TO COOLED URBAN PIPES.
