Summary

TOKYO GAS BUILT IN 1970 THE FIRST UNDERGROUND TANK IN THE WORLD WITH A MEMBRANE FILLING SYSTEM, OF A CAPACITY OF 10,000 M3, AT THENEGISHI TERMINAL. SINCE THAT DATE, 23 TANKS WERE BUILT. R&D PROGRAMMES CONCERNED THE CONSTRUCTION OF HIGH-CAPACITY UNDERGROUND TANKS. THE PAPER DEALS WITH THE CONSTRUCTION TECHNIQUES OF THE LAST PLANT WITH A CAPACITY OF 140,000 M3, WHILE PRESENTING THE MOST RECENT DEVELOPMENT S OF THIS TECHNOLOGY IN JAPAN AS WELL AS THE FUTURE TRENDS OF THE LNG INDUSTRY.
