Stirling Solo 161 system operating at temperatures below -30°C: initial results.

Erste Messergebnisse einer Solo 161 Stirling-Kältemaschine bei Temperaturen der Kältebereitstellung unterhalb von -30 °C.

Summary

With a view to confirming and validating theoretical studies on the use of Stirling heat pumps in a "moderate" ambiance (above -40 °C), the authors obtained very accurate experimental measurements of the operating characteristics of a recently developed system (called Solo 161) running on helium. After outlining the principles of the Stirling cycle, they present the initial results obtained in measurement of refrigerating and thermal output, temperatures and internal pressures in various parts of the circuit. PV diagrams illustrate their evolution during one crank revolution. These experiments provided accurate details on many parameters and demonstrated the value and efficacy of the process, even at -80 °C.
