Stirling systems: experimental research on heat transfer in woven regenerators.

Experimentelle Untersuchungen zum Wärmeübertragungsverhalten von Drahtgewebe-Regeneratoren in Stirling-Maschinen.

Author(s) : SIEGEL A.

Summary

Most published studies on Stirling systems focus on the development of the entire installation. The author of this article adopts the opposite approach and attempts to clarify the basic heat-exchange phenomena in the regenerator, and discusses experimental studies performed at the Institute of Applied Thermodynamics and Air conditioning, University of Essen, in this context. It presents an innovative device that has been specially designed in order to perform rapid measurements of temperature changes and mass flow rates in the regenerator. The results obtained using a simple specially designed Stirling system are given and a heat-exchange equation is proposed.
