Summary
Trials were conducted to establish a method for producing high quality budded carnation shoots. Buds of carnation cv. Coral were forced after various storage periods. A storage period longer than 16 weeks delayed the onset of anthesis and is therefore not recommended. The longest practical storage period was 12 weeks. Shoots stored for 4 weeks at 1 deg C were successfully forced in a greenhouse in early May and petal colour was nearly normal.
