Summary

In this study, the crystal structure, magnetism and magnetocaloric effect of Mn38Fe22Al40-xBx alloys with x = 0, 1, 2, 3 and 4 were investigated. The alloys were prepared by arc melting and high-temperature solid-state reaction in Ar atmosphere. Room temperature X-ray diffraction study shows that the alloys crystallize in cubic CsCl(B2)-type structure (space group Pm-3m) . The alloys undergo a ferromagnetic to paramagnetic second-order phase transition. The Curie temperature (TC) changes with varying the boron concentration. The maximum magnetic-entropy change is about 0.67 J/kgK for x = 1 in a field change from 0 to 1.5 T at 292 K.
