Studies on thermal stratification for comfort air conditioning.
Estudios de la estratificación térmica para el aire acondicionado de confort.

Type of article: Article, Case study
Summary
This article is a Spanish translation of IIR Bulletin reference 2000-2723. Thermal stratification is due to variation in air density with its temperature. While stratified air conditioning is desirable for high ceiling buildings to reduce the cooling load in summer, it is necessary for cabins without a ceiling. Such a test cabin was built for the experimental study of air stratification as influenced by air movement above the cabin partitions, bottom air leak, supply air direction, and light height and wattage. Their quantitative effects on thermal stratification are presented and explained, leading to some qualitative conclusions.
