Summary
Ventilation is indispensable in all buildings to avoid air contamination. In air-conditioned spaces, intake of outdoor air leads to the increase of air-conditioning loads. Especially, the latent heat load becomes significant under hot humid climate such as Tokyo in summer. Therefore, the control of temperature and humidity of intake air is essential to ventilation systems. The authors are aiming at the development of the desiccant ventilation system with minimal energy consumption. In our system, the humidity and temperature of outdoor air are regulated by a pair of desiccant unit and a plate heat exchanger. The objective of the study is to analyze the dehumidification performance of the direct heating regeneration type desiccant unit. The direct heating regeneration type desiccant unit is consisted of fin heaters, on which the adsorbent is coated. The adsorbent can be regenerated by directly heated by the fin heaters. The performance of the system was predicted by simulation which was validated by the comparison with the experimental results. The results revealed the maximum quantity of the dehumidification under the given conditions.
