Summary

A numerical model of PCM dealing with its melting-freezing process was introduced and validated with theoretical and experimental results. In order to investigate the effect of PCM wallboard on the indoor thermal environments, the PCM numerical model was incorporated into a CFD code developed by the authors. Using the CFD code, the thermal performance of PCM wallboards was compared with that of ordinary gypsum wallboards used in a standard type residential house assuming a summer cooling season.
