Summary

Scroll compressors have excellent fundamental features such as high efficiency, high reliability, low vibration and low noise, and have therefore been recently used for heat pumps and automotive air conditioners. In the low temperature applications, as the suction gas pressure is very low the compression ratio is very high, and as a result the discharge gas goes to very high temperature. In order to lower discharge gas temperature, refrigerant liquid has been injected into compression pockets. The authors studied theoretically and experimentally the scroll compressor behaviour in case of liquid refrigerant in compression pockets.
