Summary

Internal heat exchangers (IHXs) have been widely used in R744 systems, but little information has been published concerning the performance of IHXs in HCFC-134a systems. In this study, the influences of fin number and inside distribution way on heat transfer performance of IHXs were investigated by both experiment and simulation. The simulation model developed has a good agreement with the experimental results with the error within plus or minus 10%. The results show that the liquid inside structure is more sensitive to fin number than the suction inside structure. When fin number increases from 3 to 7, the capacity of suction inside structure increases by about 14% while that of liquid inside structure increases by about 50%. When the volume distributions of the two structures are the same, the capacity of the suction inside structure is 4-7% larger than that of the liquid inside structure.
