Summary

A MAGNETIC PENDULUM DEVICE WAS DESIGNED, DEVELOPED, AND USED TO CHARACTERIZE HIGH-TRANSITION TEMPERATURE MATERIALS. A CORRELATION BETWEEN THE VOLUME FRACTION OF SUPERCONDUCTING PHASE IN A COMPOSITE AND THE FORCE OF EXPULSION WAS FOUND. THE DEVICE IS SENSITIVE ENOUGH TO DETECT A VOLUME OF 0.5% SUPERCONDUCTING PHASEIN A COMPOSITE. THE APPLICATION OF THE DEVICE FOR CHARACTERIZING COMPOSITES, INCIPIENT SUPERCONDUCTIVITY, AND FILMS HAS BEEN DISCUSSED.
