THE POSSIBILITIES OF USING SUPERCONDUCTOR MAGNETIC ENERGY STORAGES TO ENHANCE RELIABILITY INTHE OPERATION OF POWER SYSTEMS AND POWER EQUIPMENT WERE STUDIED, AS WELL AS THE IMPROVEMENT OF THEIR PERFORMANCE. INFORMATION IS PROVIDED ON THE PLANNED BUILDING OF AN EXPERIMENTAL FACILITY COMPRISING A 10-100-MILLION-JOULE SUPERCONDUCTOR STORAGE AND A 30-MEGAWATT CONVERTER UNDER A RESEARCH PROGRAM OF THE USSR.
