Synthetic ether type lubricants: structure and properties.

Synthetische Etheröle: Struktur und Eigenschaften.

Author(s) : FAHL J.

Type of article: Article

Summary

In almost all areas of lubrication, the use of synthetic lubricants is increasing. Polyether type oils are characterized by exceptional tribological behaviour and are used as base fluids for heavy duty and special lubricants. The paper describes chemical structures of polyalkylene glycols, polyphenyl ethers, perfluoropolyethers and polyvinyl ethers and it reports on investigations of physical properties with respect to refrigeration compressor applications. It is shown that the molecular structure greatly influences refrigerant solubility.
