THE ADVENT OF THE VARIABLE-SPEED PUMP FOR CHILLED WATER SYSTEMS HAS PROVIDED APPRECIABLE BENEFITS IN THE FORMS OF ENERGY SAVINGS, REDUCED PUMP SPEED AND SYSTEM PRESSURE, AS WELL AS EASE IN OPERATION. UNFORTUNATELY, THESE BENEFITS ARE OFTEN MISSING FROM CHILLED WATER SYSTEMS USING VARIABLE-SPEED PUMPS. IN MOST CASES, THERE IS A LACK OF SYSTEM ANALYSIS PRIOR TO THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE CHILLED WATER SYSTEM. THE PAPER EVALUATES A CAMPUS-TYPE BUILDING INSTALLATION IN HOPES THAT A FURTHER EXPLANATION OF SYSTEM HEAD ANALYSIS WILL RESULT, ALONG WITH A DEMONSTRATION THAT BUILDING PUMPS ARE THE MOST ECONOMICAL ANSWER FOR MULTIPLE BUILDING OR MULTIZONE, CHILLED WATER SYSTEM, SINCE IT WILL EVALUATE THE DISTRIBUTION OR < TRANSPORT > ENERGY INVOLVED WITH A CAMPUS-TYPE INSTALLATION.
