Summary

States that drying air in hot and humid regions may be a promising low cost alternative to traditional air conditioning. The use of solar energy in the air drying process may reduce electricity consumption for drying considerably. Describes a prototype solar-powered system with an auxiliary electrical heater for supplying dried-only air to the immediate vicinity of office workers which has been designed, fabricated and tested. Presents the results and compares the overall system performance with an equivalent conventional window-type air conditioner, finding comparable electricity consumptions.
