THE AUTHOR FIRST GIVES SOME STATISTICS ON TRANSPORTED PRODUCTS AND ON GERMAN REFRIGERATED SHIP SPECIFICATIONS FROM 1950 TO 1990. HE DESCRIBES THE 2 TYPES OF REFRIGERATED CONTAINERS: INTEGRATED CONTAINERS AND PORTHOLE CONTAINERS. THE ELECTRICITY NEEDS DEPEND ON THE CAPACITY OF FANS, COMPRESSORS AND COLD-WATER PUMPS, AND EACH IS DISCUSSED, ALONG WITH AIR COOLERS, EXPANSION VALVES AND THE IMPORTANCE OF DEFROSTING. FUTURE PROGRESS WILL BE MARKED BY THE SAVINGS POSSIBILITIES OF VARIABLE-SPEED COMPRESSORS, PUMPS AND FANS.
