Summary

THIS PAPER REPORTS THE RESULTS OF THE TEST STUDY OF HEAT TRANSFER COEFFICIENTS AND PRESSURE LOSSES FOR AMMONIA BOILING INSIDE A LONG TUBE. THE DOMAIN OF THE TESTS CORRESPONDS TO A TEMPERATURE RANGE OF 303 TO 343 K (30 TO 70 DEG C). THE RESULTS, SYNTHESIZED BY RELATIVELY SIMPLE FORMULAE, SHOULD MAKE IT POSSIBLE TO DIMENSION AMMONIA EVAPORATORS IN THE ABOVE-MENTIONED TEMPERATURE RANGE FOR TWO PATTERNSOF EXCHANGERS: VERTICAL AND HORIZONTAL TUBES. AS FOR PRESSURE LOSS IN TWO-PHASE FLOW, A RELATIONSHIP GIVING THE WEIGHT OF A COLUMN OF LIQUID-VAPOUR MIXTURE IS COMPARED TO THE TEST RESULTS. THE CALCULATION OF THIS WEIGHT IS VERY SIGNIFICANT IN THE CASE OF THE DIMENSIONING OF AN EXCHANGER, AS IT MAKES IT POSSIBLE TO PREDICT THE RECIRCULATION RATE IN THE CASE OF NATURAL CIRCULATION.
