Summary

The annual results for the operation of CFC recovery from discarded domestic refrigerators in Paris is given. Because of the weakness of the results, a study was ordered from a specialized organization to test the recovery method used and compare the pumping equipment available. The study yielded invaluable information on the nature and quantity of the refrigerating fluids utilized, the conditions for the collection of the discarded units and the conditions for pumping by evaporation. Some recommendations for an efficient transfer are supplied. A comparison of the equipment for transfer in the laboratory is made as well as a comparison of operating in the laboratory and in the field. A recovery system of fluid and oil is presented and advances to be made on the method currently used are listed. Finally, CFC recovery in insulation foams and in commercial refrigeration units is described. J.L.
