Summary
A developmental study is being conducted on the application of gas lubricated aerodynamic plate-foil journal bearing to the high speed cryogenic turboexpander. This type of plate-foil journal bearing is promising in the replacement of the externally pressurized gas bearing widely used now and possesses better stability. A 25.0 millimeter diameter plate-foil journal bearing has undergone testing in the air cryogenic turboexpander.
