EVALUATION OF SEALS FOR HIGH PERFORMANCE CRYOGENIC TURBOMACHINES.

Author(s) : HENDRICKS R. C.

Summary

THE AUTHORS DISCUSS AN APPROACH TO THE CALCULATION OF THE UNIFORM FLOW AND DYNAMIC CHARACTERISTICS OF SEALS AND BEARINGS. LOCAL AVERAGE VELOCITY IS AFFECTED TO A LARGE EXTENT BY INLET AND EXIT EFFECTS AND FLUID INJECTION, CAUSING SECONDARY FLOWS. FOR THE THREE-DIMENSION MODELS CONSIDERED, THE RESULTS AGREE REASONABLY WITH SELECTED DATA. CALCULATIONS FOR SINGLE-DIRECTION PRESSURE ARE NOT ADEQUATE ENOUGH TO GIVE FLOW VARIATIONS.
