Summary

THE FREEZING AND THAWING OF SOIL-WATER INDUCES REPEATED FROSTHEAVE AND THAW SETTLEMENT HENCE EXPERIMENTS WERE CARRIED OUT ON FROZEN SOILS IN ORDER TO PREVENT FROST DAMAGE. REFRIGERATING TECHNIQUES ARE HIGHLY IMPORTANT IN CRYOPEDOLOGY, BUT THERE ARE SOME SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS. BASED ON THE PRINCIPLE OF STEADY VERTICAL HEAT FLOW AND USING THE COMPARISON METHOD, THE HEAT CONDUCTIVITIES OF VARIOUS KINDS OF SOILS WERE MEASURED. THIS PAPER EXPLAINS IN DETAIL THE CHARACTERISTICS, TECHNOLOGY AND MAINTENANCE OF CONSTANT TEMPERATURE INEXPERIMENTS ON FROZEN SOILS.
