Summary

The critical module of all second generation thermal imaging systems is the Standard Advanced Dewar Assembly (SADA). To meet the requirements of advanced infrared imaging systems of the 1990s and beyond the Department of Defense (DOD) has established a family concept for the SADAs. The paper will: 1) outline the family of coolers that the DOD has standardized on; 2) highlight the characteristics of each cooler; 3) present the status of the various developmental & qualification efforts; 4) discuss the various second generation users and first generation systems; and 5) cover application and integration.
