THE SENSITIVITY OF THE ECONOMICS OF HEAT PUMP ASSISTED DRIERS TO VARIOUS FACTORS SUCH AS DESIGN, OPERATIONAL AND ECONOMIC VARIABLES HAS BEEN ASSESSED FOR INDIAN CONDITIONS. RESULTS HAVE BEEN PRESENTED IN GRAPHICAL FORM TO ILLUSTRATE THE OPTIMUM CONDITIONS FOR ECONOMIC VIABILITY. FOR THE SPECIFIC TYPICAL CONDITIONS AND THE CURRENT COSTS OF ELECTRICITY AND STEAM IN INDIA, A HEAT PUMP ASSISTED DRIER HAS A PAYBACK PERIOD IN THE RANGE OF 2 TO 3 YEARS.
