Summary

THE BEHAVIOUR OF SOUND VELOCITY AT LOW TEMPERATURES IS STUDIED WITH DIFFERENT HEAT TREATMENT METHODS AFFECTING THE OXYGEN CONTENT. THE TEMPERATURE DEPENDENCE IS FOUND TO BE ALMOST LINEAR AND ITS SLOPE CORRELATES WITH THE OXYGEN DEFICIT IN YBCO SAMPLES. THIS IS APPARENTLY THE PREREQUISITE FOR DEVELOPMENT OF A METHOD TO CONTROL THE OXYGEN DEFICIT IN BULK SAMPLES OF YTTRIUM CERAMICS.
