THE EXERGETIC OPTIMUM OF HEAT EXCHANGERS.

Author(s) : AURACHER H., RAFEY E. el-

Summary

THE EXERGY LOSSES IN HEAT EXCHANGERS ARE DUE TO THE PRESSURE LOSS OF FLUIDS AND TO THE HEAT TRANSFER BECAUSE OF A TEMPERATURE DIFFERENCE. THESE 2 EXERGY LOSSES CAN BE PRESENTED AS A FUNCTION OF THE REYNOLDS NUMBER. IF THE SYSTEM CONDITIONS ARE FIXED, THERE IS AN OPTIMUM REYNOLDS NUMBER. THE PART OF THE EXERGY LOSS RESULTING FROM THE PRESSURE LOSS AMOUNTS, IN THE CASE OF OPTIMUM, TO ABOUT 16% OF THE TOTAL EXERGY LOS. THEORETICALLY, THE ECONOMICAL OPTIMUM DOES NOT CORRESPOND WITH THE EXERGETIC OPTIMUM.
