Summary

IF BOILING OCCURS ON A SURFACE WHICH IS COVERED BY A POROUS LAYER, SUCH AS SINTERED METAL ON THE SURFACE OF A TUBE, THERE WILL BE A TRANSITION PERIOD FROM NORMAL BUBBLE BOILING, AS VAPOUR BUILDS UP WITHIN THE POROUS MEDIUM, TO A STABLE BOILING MODE AT THE OUTER SURFACE. THE AUTHORS HAVE STUDIED THIS TRANSITION AND CONCLUDE THAT THE PROCESS IS VERY COMPLEX AND DEPENDS ON MANY VARIABLES. D.W.H.
