THE PASSIVE AUGMENTATION OF NUCLEATE BOILING HEAT TRANSFER BY POROUS LAYERS FABRICATED ON A HORIZONTAL CIRCULAR CYLINDER IS EXAMINED EXPERIMENTALLY. THE NATURE AND MAGNITUDE OF THE AUGMENTATION ARE DESCRIBED FOR EACH LAYER AND DATA FROM SEVERAL SOURCES ARE COMPARED WITH PRESENT ONES. BOILING LIQUIDS TESTED ARE R113 AND WATER UNDER ATMOSPHERIC PRESSURE.
