Atmospheric carbon dioxide and the ocean.

Summary

Several different predictions have been made of the rate at which the oceans can absorb the extra carbon dioxide released from fossil fuels and deforestation. Tests indicate that it takes several decades for the dissolved gas to move down 1000 meters, and 1000 years for it to reach the ocean depths. The different models are complicated by oceanic and atmospheric currents. It seems probable that the accuracy of these predictions cannot be improved without further research and better measurements.
