Summary

This book collects and evaluates studies on heat pumps from all over the world to provide for the first time a truly global assessment of the impact of heat pumps on the greenhouse effect. CO2 emissions are evaluated and the analysis also considers the effect of heat pump working fluids (in particular CFCs and HCFCs) and methane. This overview of the world-wide knowledge on this issue will prove to be a valuable document for policy makers, manufacturers and users who want to determine the environmental impact of heat pumps in their situation. The conclusions drawn out highlight the importance of a continued policy to pursue the advancement and implementation of heat pumps as an effective technology to combat the man-made greenhouse effect.
