The influence of geopolitics and geoeconomics on the LNG market: a guide to understanding and mitigating key risks.

Number: 30

Author(s) : BETTINELLI G., SASSI F.

Summary

The LNG market has, in recent years, been shaken by the unprecedented level of volatility caused by the reduction in Russian pipeline supply to Europe before and in the aftermath of the invasion of Ukraine. While a disruption of a comparable magnitude is unlikely to be repeated, at least in the short-term, recent events demonstrate that the influence of geopolitics has become a structural feature of the market.
