The 820 giga-electron-volt HERA (hadron-electron-ring accelerator) proton storage ring will be equipped with about 650 superconducting main magnets. In order to assure the field quality and the superconducting properties of these magnets, strict requirements have been set and a severe quality control has been performed. The insulation inspection of the superconducting main dipole magnet during fabrication process is presented and a new turn insulation inspection test is presented in detail.
