The Italian absorption appliance market breakdown of the statistics for 2008 and 2009.

Summary

The paper presents a breakdown of the statistics for 2008 and 2009 on the Italian market for absorption appliances, which are largely used for air-conditioning. The absorption appliances considered are those that use a solution of lithium bromide and water as their working fluid; they run both directly on gas and indirectly on hot water or steam. The figures set out in the paper have been collected via ad hoc surveys conducted by the ANIMA (Federazione delle Associazioni Nazionali dell’Industria Meccanica Varie ed Affine – Federation of the Italian Associations of Mechanical and Engineering Industries) Economics and Communication Unit on behalf of CLIMGAS, the Italian trade association concerned, which is in turn a member of ANIMA. The paper first provides a brief description of the various design categories of the appliances considered, then sets out the reporting principles adopted in the surveys conducted, after which the market figures for 2008 and 2009 are classified and examined in detail. The various appliances have first been classified according to their design category, after which they have been regrouped in rating brackets. In this latter classification, the number of units distributed, their cumulative rating and the associated turnover have been stated for each rating bracket. The final step was to compare the salient figures for the individual years gathered and classified by the same method in the past. The figures collected have been set out in graphs and tables, the better to highlight market trends. The number of firms surveyed stood at 14, i.e. all those trading in the sector concerned in Italy.
