Summary

The Descartes tower, built in 1987 for IBM-France, has 100,000 m2 of offices, equipped with 2,800 air-treatment modules (MTA). Each MTA unit is a mini air-treatment package with various possibilities: flows of 350, 500 and even 700 m3/h, refrigerating capacity from 1.3 to 2 kilowatts, and heating capacity from 2.7 to 4.5 kilowatts. The plant is factory tested and can be coupled to hydraulic and electrical supplies by means of flexible pipes and cables and quick connectors. In each floor, in the centre of the building, there is a plant room with all the mechanical components. A building management system coordinates the plant and provides a contractual guarantee of results, financial penalities are possible. Satisfactory results are obtained thanks to preventive management and staff training .
