Type of article: Article
Summary
The article summarizes an indepth study day held in Belgium at the end of 1990. Attractive features of ice-storage systems were identified as: the ability to avoid peak loads, the use of lower capacity refrigeration systems and the availability of low-cost night electricity. An overview of various cost tariffs for electricity is presented, followed by a review of ice-storage systems, typically the ice chiller, the ice bank and the STL system. Their field of application and evaluation are discussed.
