THE AUTHOR HIGHLIGHTS THE ENERGY USAGE OF SCREW COMPRESSORS WHEN OPERATING AT A HIGHER COMPRESSION RATIO THAN THAT REQUIRED FOR THE APPLICATION. HE POINTS OUT THAT THOUGH THE VOLUME INDEX FOR A STANDARD COMPRESSORIS FIXED, DIFFERENT MANUFACTURERS MAY OFFER COMPRESSORS WITH DIFFERENT VOLUME INDEXES FOR THE SAME REFRIGERATION CAPACITY. IT IS ESSENTIAL, THEREFORE, TO SELECT THE COMPRESSOR MOST APPLICABLE TO THE JOB. METHODS OF CALCULATION FOR POWER SAVING ARE SHOWN WITH EXAMPLES COMPARING THE SELECTION OF ALTERNATIVE COMPRESSORS FOR TWO APPLICATIONS. D.W.H.
