The use of pressure wave machines in air cycle systems.

Author(s) : ENGELKING S., KRUSE H.

Summary

The pressure wave machine is a suitable way to build up an air cycle refrigeration plant. To reach high performance, it is necessary to have an optimized design for the geometry. Difficulties in calculating efficiencies, caused by different mass flows on inlets and outlets, can be handled by using the definitions presented. Test and calculation results are shown and briefly discussed. There are only minor influences of humidity and snow. A capacity control mechanism can be realised by controlling the rotational speed of the additional compressor.
