IN THIS REPORT THE EARTH HEAT PUMP GROUP AT CHALMERS UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY GIVES AN OVERALL REVIEW OF THE FEASIBILITY OF USING THE GROUND AS A HEAT SOURCE FOR HEAT PUMPS IN SWEDISH URBAN AREAS. PRINCIPLES FOR DIFFERENT SYSTEMS ARE GIVEN. HORIZONTAL SYSTEMS, HEAT COILS IN LAKES AND GROUNDWATER PUMPING, VERTICAL HOLE SYSTEMS AND GEOTHERMAL SYSTEMS ARE DISCUSSED TECHNICALLY AND ECONOMICALLY WITH WORKED EXAMPLES. SUMMARILY THE ESTIMATED DEVELOPMENT POTENTIAL OF THE ECONOMICALLY MOST FAVOURABLE SYSTEMS IS GIVEN FROM THE TECHNICAL POINT OF VIEW.
