Summary

Chilled beam and radiant ceiling systems combined with mixing ventilation are used widely for air-conditioning of office buildings. This paper presents experimental results on the thermal conditions in a 6-person meeting room, conditioned with either of these systems in cooling. Also chilled beam systems with integrated radiant panels were studied. Measurements at two levels of heat loads generated from six occupants, computers, lighting, and solar heat load distributed on simulated window and on the floor were performed. Air temperature, operative temperature, velocity and turbulent intensity were measured and draft rate levels calculated in the room. Two thermal manikins were used for evaluating the local thermal conditions within the occupied zone. The identified differences in the thermal conditions in the room provided by the studied systems were not big. The difference between operative temperature and room air temperature was small. The velocity levels in the occupied zone were a bit higher in chilled beam cases.
