Summary

THIS FLOWMETER HAS BEEN DEVELOPED FOR A SPACE CRYOSTAT IN THE FRAMEWORK OF THE INFRARED SPACE OBSERVATORY PROJECT. SEVERAL COMMERCIAL THERMAL MASS FLOWMETERS WERE TESTED TO DETERMINE THEIR ABILITY TO WORK AT LOW TEMPERATURES. THEN A PROTOTYPE WAS DERIVED WITH SOME MODIFICATIONS, MAINLY CONCERNING THE ELECTRONICS. IT WITHSTOOD A TEST PROGRAMME INCLUDING FUNCTIONAL TESTS DOWN TO 100 K AND VIBRATION TESTS AT THE QUALIFICATION LEVEL.
