Thermodynamic criteria for glide matching with binary and ternary zeotropic mixtures.

Author(s) : SCHNOTALE J.

Summary

A new entropy generation parameter is proposed to quantify different zeotropic mixtures and determine whether they could provide correct glide matching during the phase change process and consequently to optimize mixture components and their concentrations. Practical application of the proposed entropy generation parameter is illustrated by calculations performed for a set of binary and ternary mixtures. Theoretical analysis and usefulness of the proposed entropy generation parameter is confronted with measurements. Continuous measurement of temperature distribution along heat exchangers and along different parts of the refrigerating unit, in addition to a data acquisition system, were also performed with a thermal video camera.
