Summary

Among the ideas to limit traffic jams in city centres, the generalization of night delivery for small and medium-sized companies offers several advantages. This solution would allow access to city centres for larger vehicles when the traffic flow is good. It will also imply an immediate limitation of total energy consumption of the vehicles involved, a significant decrease in the environmental impact resulting in an improvement in air quality and road safety due to the restriction of truck traffic during the day. The feasibility of this measure obviously requires an assessment of the noise level generated by the activities of night delivery. This has led manufacturers of temperature-controlled vehicles to develop new equipment with a maximum noise level of 60 dB(A), but this is not sufficient to guarantee low noise levels for residents.
