Summary

The cold air refrigeration system is an interesting alternative for railway air conditioning. Advantages like reduced volume, lower mass and the rigidity of this system must offset the lower energy efficiency compared with the known refrigeration systems. Through straight optimization of the thermodynamic parameters of the cold air refrigeration system for air conditioning of railway cars, an acceptable energy balance close to that of well known systems can be reached.
