Summary

In this work a numerical investigation is performed aiming to account the effects of the turbulence modeling in the performance of the Fluid-Structure Interaction simulation of a reciprocating compressor. An actual compressor geometry was analyzed, particularly considering the suction muffler and valve system. The global performance numerical results were compared with experimental data of the compressor operational characteristics in order to validate the approach. The analysis comprises straightforward RANS models, k-e, SST, and traditional LES sub-grid models and the Smagorinsky and the Dynamic model of Germano, looking for the best option in terms of results reliability, convergence robustness and computational effort minimization.
