Universal energy efficiency evaluation method of refrigeration systems.

Summary
A working group of leading refrigeration companies in Germany under the guidance of the VDMA (German Engineering Federation) has been working on a new method which allows a more general and universal comparison of refrigeration applications. The result of the common initiative was the VDMA specification No. 24247 “Energy efficiency of cooling systems” which describes from a general point of view a calculation method to evaluate the efficiency of each cooling system either as an overall value for the whole system as well as for sub efficiencies of fluid compression, heat transfer, fluid transport and cold usage themselves. The presentation introduces a calculation method for new neutral and widely comparable key performance indicators of cooling systems. Furthermore the calculation method can be used as a tool to identify easily the optimization potential on existing and for planned cooling systems.
