Upgrading industrial waste heat using a hybrid heat pump.

Summary
The Institute for Energy Technology in Norway has developed a high-temperature absorption/compression type heat pump. It is designed to upgrade industrial waste heat from a temperature of around 50 °C to a temperature of 100-115 °C. The system uses standard components and the COP of the heat pump process can be over 3.5. The relatively low investment costs, combined with an efficient cycle, make the technology very promising for Norwegian industrial processes.
