Summary

The study numerically investigated the performance of an air cycle refrigerator integrated desiccant system used in supermarket applications. The cooling effect of the cycle is used to refrigerate the display cases and the exhausted heat from the air cycle is used to regenerate the desiccant rotor to dehumidify the ventilated air in summer and to heat this air in winter. Simulation analysis is carried out to calculate the air conditioning coefficient of performance (COPac), refrigerating coefficient of performance (COPr), supply air conditions and the supply temperature to the display cases under different conditions. From the results, it has been clarifying that the system can operate at a wide range of refrigeration temperature with a small change on COPr, the desiccant system has the ability to supply air at low humidity removing a large latent load in summer and using the heat rotor to recovery the exhausted energy from the store area significantly increases COPac of the system especially in winter.
